BREAKING: Equity Forward Reacts To Azar's Shocking Hill Admission Regarding Child Separation

03.12.19 – Mary Alice Carter, Executive Director of Equity Forward, issued the following statement in response to Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Azar's shocking admission in front of the House Energy and Commerce Committee today that he did nothing to raise concerns when confronted with Trump's child separation policy:

“Today Alex Azar admitted he did absolutely nothing to raise concerns when confronted with Trump’s cruel and callous family separation policy. Does this mean that Azar would follow any order —no matter how horrific — from President Trump? Does Azar deserve to be the nation's health secretary? If lifelong harm to children wasn't enough for him to step in, then what kind of health secretary does this country have? If Azar didn't know that this policy would cause harm to children, what business does he have being the nation's health secretary?”

While Azar claimed his top lieutenants Maggie Wynne, Steven Wagner and embattled Scott Lloyd didn't raise concerns voiced by career employees, common sense dictates that taking children from their parents would cause long-term harm.

We know Trump likes to surround himself with lackeys, and he has found a willing one in Azar.

Sec. Azar, you are either unfit to discern what harms people or you are complicit — either one is unacceptable.”
