Equity Forward Commends Ruling Against Missouri’s Extreme Abortion Ban
Highly restrictive law was due to take effect at midnight
New York, NY – Today, a federal judge blocked a Missouri law that would effectively ban abortion in the state just hours before the legislation was set to go into effect.
“The court was right to push back on Missouri lawmakers’ overreach today. But the anti-abortion lobby’s coordinated effort to challenge women’s access to abortion is still very much underway,” said Michelle Kuppersmith, director of Equity Forward. “Americans are overwhelmningly opposed to extreme abortion restrictions, and we support advocates on the ground working to protect patients and maintain their ability to access care.”
Last week, Equity Forward launched “Defund The Bans” in response to this year’s onslaught of abortion bans. As Forbes reports, the campaign calls on 66 major companies to stop supporting the lawmakers behind the restrictive abortion bans in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Missouri and to make comparable donations to organizations supporting women’s rights.
