Equity Forward Issues New Report Summarizing Two Years of Attacks on Reproductive Health, Rights Ahead of SOTU
02.05.19 – With President Trump expected to address abortion at tonight’s State of the Union address, Equity Forward issued The 2019 State of Reproductive Health, a new report which summarizes the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) attacks on reproductive health and rights over the last two years.
Highlights from the report include:

A rundown of the various ways the Trump administration is trying to take away access to birth control, from deprioritizing contraception in the nation’s family planning program that serves low-income people (Title X) to pandering to hate groups in order to advance its anti-birth control agenda;

The real story behind why the Trump administration is considering cutting nearly $100 million in lifesaving research for conditions and diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, HIV, Zika and Autism;

Information on how the Trump administration is looking to gag certain health care providers from even mentioning the word abortion to their patients.
“In their war on reproductive health, President Trump and HHS Secretary Alex Azar have weaponized our nation’s health department to rob us of our health care,” said Mary Alice Carter, Executive Director of Equity Forward.
“From working to roll back insurance coverage for birth control to dismantling the national family planning program, Trump, Azar and their lieutenants are coming up with new schemes to prevent women and their families from planning and spacing their pregnancies. As of 2016, our nation’s unintended pregnancy rate is at a 30-year low, but it certainly won’t stay that way when our very own health department is working to take away people’s abilities to make decisions that are right for themselves and their families.
“Don’t listen to the rhetoric. There’s simply nothing ‘pro-life’ about robbing people of their basic health care options like birth control.”
