ICYMI: NowThis News Highlights Scott Lloyd’s Lies to Congress About Tracking Young Pregnant Women

Equity Forward’s research shows Lloyd inquired about pregnant women in custody even before he became ORR Director

03.25.19 – Today, NowThis News released a video highlighting that notorious former Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) Director Scott Lloyd maintained a spreadsheet to track the pregnancies and menstrual cycles of individual young women in his office’s custody. This information, which was originally reported by MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, demonstrates that Lloyd lied to Congress during a hearing last month when he unequivocally denied tracking menstrual cycles per a question from Rep. Madeleine Dean (PA-04). On Friday, House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (NY-10) sent a letter to Lloyd requesting that he clarify these misleading statements before April 12.

Emails obtained by Equity Forward show that Lloyd requested information on the number of pregnant women in custody even before he was ORR Director, and once in the role, he received weekly “pregnancy notifications” that included detailed and deeply personal information about these young women.

Although Lloyd no longer runs ORR, he still works at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in the department’s Center for Faith and Opportunity Initiatives. More information on Scott Lloyd can be found at HHSWatch.org, an extensive website with a library of research on more than 50 political appointees at our nation's health department.
