Office of Refugee Resettlement

The Administration for Children and Families' (ACF) Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) is charged with “providing new populations with the opportunity to achieve their full potential in the United States.” But ORR has proven it will do exactly the opposite, particularly in their facilitation of Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy for migrants seeking asylum in the United States. This policy entailed targeting asylum seekers who are parents and separating them from their children at the border, which quickly spiraled into a humanitarian crisis. From May 5 to June 9, 2018, DHS reported that over 2,300 children were taken from their parents and brought into government custody. ORR officials oversee the health care of minors in its custody, including routinely denying access to abortion under the Trump administration.
