Save The Date: House To Finally Hold Title X Hearing
06.13.19 – For more than two years, the Trump administration did everything it could to sabotage Title X, the nation’s only family planning program.
Yesterday, the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations announced that it will hold a hearing on Title Xnext Wednesday, June 19, 2019. While we still don’t know who from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will testify at the hearing, it is our hope that Secretary Azar and other senior agency officials are held accountable for their harmful decisions.
Here are five ways that Trump’s HHS has undermined this vital program:

Finalizing the domestic “gag rule,” prohibiting Title X providers from even mentioning abortion to their patients

Removing “birth control” and “contraception” from Title X grant guidelines

Giving anti-birth control political appointees final approval of grant awardees

Making it easier for anti-abortion organizations to apply for grants (and even awarding one extremist group more than $5 million this year)

Working with state health departments to divert funds from traditional providers to anti-abortion centers
