Watchdog Slams Court Ruling Allowing Gag Rule in Maryland
New York, NY – Minutes ago, the Fourth Circuit decided to allow the Trump administration to enforce its harmful Title X “gag rule,” which prevents physicians from referring patients for abortions.
Mary Alice Carter, senior advisor to Equity Forward, released the following statement in response:
“This gag rule is yet another egregious move by the Trump administration that aims to rob millions of patients of access to birth control and other critical health services. The health department is meant to protect, not attack, health care access. Secretary Azar must be held accountable for the damage his agency’s overreach is causing.
The case is Mayor & City Council of Baltimore v. Azar, 4th Cir., No. 19-1614.
