Anti-Abortion Doctors Again Fail To Disclose Deep Ties To Extremist Groups When Testifying Before Congress

Dr. Skop is much more than just a, "Texas OB/GYN"

At today's House Oversight Committee hearing, Examining the Urgent Need to Protect and Expand Abortion Rights and Access in the United States, Dr. Ingrid Skop testified and was identified only as, "Texas-based OB/GYN."  This identification leaves out her deep connections to influential anti-abortion groups.

Dr. Skop should be additionally identified as a fellow at the Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI), an arm of the political organization, Susan B. Anthony List, that peddles questionable medical theories. She was formerly chair of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG).

This is not the first time that anti-abortion representatives from CLI have failed to be upfront about their affiliation when testifying before Congress. In December 2018, at another House Oversight hearing, Dr. David Prentice, Vice President of CLI, was introduced only as, “an advisory board member at the Midwest Stem Cell Therapy Center."

Dr. Skop and Dr. Prentice both served on the Trump Administration fetal tissue advisory board. Two-thirds of the panel was tied to anti-abortion organizations. Unsurprisingly, this board rejected federal funding for all but one research grant that relied on fetal tissue.
