ICYMI: HHS Official Valerie Huber Leads U.S. Efforts to Build Global Coalition Against Abortion Rights

03.15.19 — Earlier today, the Washington Post delineated how Valerie Huber, currently a top Health and Human Services (HHS) official and longtime abstinence-only advocate, is leading U.S. efforts to form an anti-reproductive health care coalition with countries across the world including Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

Equity Forward has been monitoring Valerie Huber’s work to limit access to comprehensive and accurate sex education since her time at HHS; additional details are on Huber’s profile on HHS Watch.

The article also notes that Huber, as part of the Trump administration’s efforts to roll back women and girls’ access to reproductive health care around the world, recently attended an event with C-FAM, the UN affiliate of Human Life International (HLI). It was recently reported that HLI has been driving laws that harm and imprison women for their reproductive health care decisions in countries like El Salvador, Mexico and the Philippines.

C-FAM has close ties to the Trump administration and HHS in particular; disgraced former Office of Refugee Resettlement Director Scott Lloyd made his only public appearance in 2018 at a C-FAM-sponsored event.

More information on Huber and Lloyd can be found at HHSWatch.org, an extensive website run by Equity Forward with a library of research on nearly 50 political appointees at our nation's health department who are hostile to reproductive health care.
