Equity Forward Responds as Louisiana Becomes Ninth State To Slash Women’s Access to Abortion
Watchdog group files public records request with those responsible for the harmful legislation

05.30.19 – Late this afternoon, Governor John Bel Edwards signed a bill that will effectively ban abortion in Louisiana. In response, Equity Forward filed a public records request seeking communications from the bill’s sponsors in the legislature and issued the following statement.

“In signing this bill, Governor John Bel Edwards is clearly putting personal beliefs ahead of what's best for women and families. We are committed to identifying the individuals and organizations helping push this dangerous legislation through the Louisiana government in an attempt to restrict women’s access to health care,” said Michelle Kuppersmith, director of Equity Forward.

Under Louisiana law, custodians must immediately present any records not in active use. View the public records request HERE

The legislation advanced following the confirmation of Wendy Vitter, a staunch anti-abortion advocate who once argued that Planned Parenthood “kills over 150,000 females a year,” to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
