SBA List — the latest group to line Trump’s pockets
05.15.18 – In 2016, anti-choice group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) did everything it could to stop Donald Trump from winning the Republican nomination. In January 2016, the group put out a release that read, in part, “we urge Republican caucus-goers and voters to support anyone but Donald Trump.”
But now, SBA List is doing everything it can to ingratiate itself with Trump.
The connections abound — putting SBA List among the ranks of the numerous special interests and foreign countries that are working to put money directly into Trump’s pocket.
- Yesterday, the group announced that President Trump and an administration official will speak at its annual fundraising gala.
- SBA List participants were encouraged to stay at the Trump International Hotel in Washington
- SBA List is running a contest to win a trip to the May 22 gala that includes free accommodations at the Trump Hotel.
This type of conduct may help SBA List score points with Trump and his Administration, but directing money to influence bad actors into infringing on people’s access to health care is downright wrong. This event isn’t happening in a vacuum — it comes amid SBA List’s efforts to get Trump’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), where former SBA List staffer Steven Valentine works, to adopt harmful policies that will affect millions of men, women and teens, including the so-called Domestic Gag rule, a policy that cuts funds to any health care provider that refers, provides or even mentions abortions.
